When backlighting a conveyor belt, there is a significant drop in brightness at the edges with conventional lighting. As the installation space is often limited, the luminaire cannot be dimensioned with sufficient size.
One solution for this is our Sled-VDC series with cosine correction. Depending on the belt spacing and other influences on site, the edges can be adjusted so that the entire surface is evenly illuminated right up to the edges.
The external dimensions for these applications are usually determined on site by the belt width and the installation conditions, such as support struts. For this reason, luminaires in this series are mainly manufactured according to customer specifications and adapted to your application.

This assembly, especially for under-rail mounting, consists of 2 light systems in one housing.
The luminaire can be equipped for a wide range of applications in machine vision in various shades of white, but also in monochrome light colors.
The light ring can be adjusted via a 1-10 V interface or a 100 kOhm potentiometer. An external controller is also available if required. The complete luminaire is activated by an optocoupler switching input.

Lights direct from the manufacturer
When revising the product series, we always take sustainability into account, as many small details add up to a big picture.
This starts with saving resources and energy, the right choice of materials we use, right through to packaging and disposal.
The cos4 law describes the natural fall-off of light at the edges. It states that the image brightness decreases by a factor of cos 4 α compared to the brightness in the center of the image when imaging a uniformly bright subject through a lens. The image brightness B ( α ) in the angle outside the image center is:
B ( α ) = B0 ⋅ cos 4 α
The recessed luminaires for under-belt mounting have a very thin edge of just 10 mm at the end of the belt.
Due to the distance to the strip and the light scattering at the edge, the entire belt width can be used for detection in industrial image processing.
The connections and the operating indicator are positioned at right angles to the belt so that they do not interfere.
You will find 3 different standard sizes as sample dimensions in our catalog. However, as the requirements for external dimensions, position of the connection socket etc. are very individual in this area, we are delighted to adapt our backlight to your specifications. These are usually determined by the maximum internal dimension between the hinge carriers and the measuring surface.
The main electronics are already built into the luminaire. It controls all the currents of the LEDs.
The correction can be set using our external Controller2-Cos or your own controller.
The brightness of the outer light ring can be adjusted via a potentiometer or a 1-10 V interface.
The entire light unit is activated via an optocoupler switching input. This switching input reacts from 5 V TTL up to 24 V PLC.
Cosine correction with external controller
If the cable diameter is too small, 2 individual wires are often combined to achieve double the diameter.
But this is not permitted according to VDE!
In this case, a cable break reduces the cross-section without it being apparent at first glance during operation. This endangers the safety of the entire system.
For this reason, we at planistar use a Sub-D plug with 2 high-current contacts that can be loaded with up to 20 A. The specially developed connection cable also has 2 wires with 1.5 mm² in order to be able to carry high currents with only a low voltage drop.
